28 Elizabeth I (1585-6) A: The earl of Leicester in the Netherlands. The text published in 1587 after the censors had worked on it is considerably shorter than, and at some points radically different from, the original, as can be seen by comparing it with the latter as reinstated by Ellis, Vol. IV, pp. 630-60. The casualties included Thynne's treatise on the earls of Leicester, pp. 630-40; his accounts of the archbishops of Canterbury, the Lords Cobham, and the wardens of the Cinque Ports which followed were also excised, to be restored by Ellis as Vol. IV, pp. 660-844.
28 Elizabeth I (1585-6) B: Works in Dover harbour.
28 Elizabeth I (1585-6) C: The lives and deaths of Sir Henry and Sir Philip Sidney. The accounts of both men were considerably altered under censorship, usually abbreviated, though one passage about Sir Philip was amplified.
28 Elizabeth I (1585-6) D: The trial and execution of the Babington conspirators. Heavily censored throughout, especially by removing the almost hysterical commentary on events.
29 Elizabeth I (1586-7) A: Debating the fate of Mary, queen of Scots.
29 Elizabeth I (1586-7) B: Crops and books.
