Hough (1999) lists nine editions of Maldon where this word has been emended to either 'gemuna', 'gemunaþ', 'gemunan', or left as 'gemunu'. She agrees with Robinson however ('Some Aspects of the Maldon Poet's Artistry') in which the arguments for changing the verb to an imperative or subjunctive are dismissed, and instead the whole speech is construed in the first person singular (i.e. a personal statement by Ælfwine about the loss of his leader).
