Compare 1587 edition: 1 King Edwarde as then beeing in Fraunce,Hugh Creſsin|gham ſent in|to Scotlande. hearing of theſe exploits atchieued by this Wal|lace his aduerſarie, ſent dyuers noble captaines vnto his lieutenãt Hugh Creſſingham with an armie into Scotland to redreſſe the matter.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Wallace in the meane tyme had layde ſiege vnto the caſtell of Couper, but nowe being ad|uertiſed of the comming of this armie againſte hym, he reyſed his ſiege, and wente to Striue|ling to defend the bridge there, that Hugh Creſ|ſingham with his armye ſhoulde not paſſe the ſame, according (as the reporte wente) his in|tent [figure appears here on page 303] was to doe.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Heere encountryng with the enimies the thirde Ides of September, he obtayned a righte worthie victorie,Hugh Creſsin|gham ſlayn at Striueling and his army diſ|comfited by Willyam Wallace. for he ſlewe not only the for|ſayde Creſſingham with a greate parte of his armye beeing paſſed the tyuer, but alſo forced the reſidue to flee, in ſuche ſorte, that a greate number of them were drowned, and fewe eſca|ped awaye with lyfe.
