This shows the upper panel on the shaft of the cross and the lower part of the head. The upper panel shows St Matthew with his symbol (an angel) and the lower one, St John the Baptist holding a lamb, a symbol of Christ, `the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world'. The join between the two sections of the shaft is clearly visible below the St John panel. Eighth century.
