'unnyt' - The grave-goods were buried with their owner for future use. Thus, the treasure may be useless to men (eldum . . .unnyt) because disintering it would be stigmatised. Klaeber quotes an Old Norse proverb from Grettissaga, 'all treasure which is hidden in the earth or buried in a hollow is in a wrong place'.
