Compare 1587 edition: 1 Vnto which demand,Edwyn defer|reth his ayde. Edwyn made this an|ſwere, that he was not only troubled with ciuile warre made againſt him by other Engliſhmen, but alſo had bin requeſted by Lewes ſurnamed Pius, as then French king in no wyſe to endo|mage the Scottes his confederates, ſo that for EEBO page image 172 that yeare preſent he might not cõueniently ſend to him any ſuccoures, but if he wold deferre the warres till the nexte yeare, he ſhoulde haue the beſte helpe that he were able to ſhewe hym.
