Compare 1587 edition: 1 Euge|nius. [figure appears here on page 150] AFter him ſuccee|ded Eugenius the fifth of that name, Ne|phew to Maldwine,Eugenius the fifth. as ſonne to his brother Dongard. Aboute the ſame time Eugenius king of Scots ſẽt with al diligence his ambaſ|ſadours vnto Egfred king of Northumber|land,Egfred king of Northumber|land. to moue him vnto peace. Egfred hauing heard the ambaſſadours which were thus ſente, fayned as though hee had bene willing to haue had peace, where he minded nothing more than to haue warres with the Scottes, ſo ſoone as his prouiſion ſhoulde be once readie, and herevpon graunted to them a truce for the ſpace of .xj. mo|neths,A truce graũ|ted. in which meane time he might make his preparation.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Eugenius hauing ſome ſecrete knowledge of Egfredes purpoſe, prouided likewiſe for the warres on his parte:Eugenius his cõmandemẽt. but for that hee would not ſeeme to gyue the occaſion, hee ſtraytely com|maunded that none of his ſubiectes ſhould be ſo hardie as to attempt any thing ſounding to the breache of the truce.
