[figure appears here on page 149] In this Fer|quhardes daies Biſhop Aydan departed this worlde, & then was Fynnan ſente for, foorth of Scotland to take vppon him the gouernmẽt of the Churche of Lyndefern,Holy Iland. where the Biſhops of Northumberland as then had theyr ſee. This Fynnan was well learned, and no leſſe renowmed for his vertuous lyfe than his predeceſſour Aydan. He died anone af|ter the deceaſſe of Ferquhard,Biſhop Col|man conuer|ted the Saxõs. & then was Col|man remoued vnto that ſee of Lyndefern, who with his vertuous inſtructions and enſamples of holy life conuerted a great multitude of Saxons vnto the true worſhipping of the liuing God.Penda king of Mertia. And amongſt other was Penda ſonne to the former Penda, king of Mertia.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 There be that wryte how Penda the father alſo was baptiſed by this Colman: and that the ſame Colman trauayled through the moſt parte of all the Engliſhe prouinces ſetting foorth the worde of life amõgſt the people, purchaſing him greate fame for his woorthie merites. He came to the church of Lyndefern in ye daies of Maldwyn that ſucceeded the laſt mencioned Ferquharde.
