Compare 1587 edition: 1 In this meane while a newe ſupplie of fiue thouſande Saxons,A new power of Saxons co|meth ouer in|to Brytaine. with theyr wines and chil|dren, came ouer into this lande, in eyghtene hoyes, and amongſt other came Hengiſts wyfe and his doughter the Ladie Roxena. Shortly after alſo king Vortigerne gaue vnto Hengiſt and his Saxons a great parte of the countrey called Lyndſey, with a caſtell of greate ſtrength called Twhancaſtre. Some haue written that Hengiſt requyred of Vortigerne ſo muche grounde, as hee mighte compaſſe with an Oxe hide, and hauing that graunted, he tooke a migh|tie Oxe hyde, and cut it into ſmall thonges, and to cõpaſſing about a right ſtrong plot of ground with thoſe thonges line wife, beganne there the fundation of a Caſtell, whiche tooke name of thoſe thonges,Twhang ca|ſtel, or Thong caſtel. wherewith the plotte thereof was firſte meaſured, and ſo was it called Twhang caſtell.
