Compare 1587 edition: 1 Agricola as the Scottiſhe Chronicles re|port, left at his departure towardes Rome, to the number of .lx. thouſande men in the Romain armie what of one and other, but nowe at theyr departure out of Galloway, there remayned vn|neath .xx. thouſande, the reſidue being diſpatched by one meane or other.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 By this concluſion of peace then,The Romains giue vp all their holdes and fortreſſes which they kept within the Scottiſhe or Pictiſh do|minions. the Scottes and Pictes got againe the whole poſſeſſion of all ſuche Countreyes as the Romaines had before wonne and takẽ away from them, as the Mers, Louthian, the Marches about Barwike, Fyffe, and Angus, wyth Kyle, Cantyr, Coningham, and Galloway: all the Romaine gariſons de|parting oute of the fortreſſes, and leauing the ſame vp vnto the former owners.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Galdus hauing thus ended the warres with the Romaines, tooke order to ſet good directions amongſt his people for the quiet and peaceable gouernment of the common wealth, viſiting dayly the countreys abrode, the better to vnder|ſtande the ſtate of them, and to refourme the ſame where it was needfull.Galdus ſtudi|eth to pre|ſerue his ſub|iects in good quiet now af|ter the warres were ended. Further conſidering that as warre breadeth good ſouldiers ſo peace by iuſtice ryddeth them out of the way, if they bee not the better prouided for.
