[1] After his deceaſſe, by common conſent of the three eſtates of the realme in councell aſſembled,Two gouer|nours choſen to rule Scot|land. Patrike Erle of Marche, and Dauid Earle of Mar were choſen gouernours, the firſt (that is to wit the Earle of Marche) had the charge of that part of the realme which lyeth on the ſouth ſide of the Furth, and the other (that is to ſaye, the Erle of Mar) was appointed to gouerne al that on the north ſyde.
