[1] Robert Bruce ſeruing that day amongſt the Engliſhmen, fetched a compaſſe about an hill, & came on the backes of the Scottes, ſo that they were in maner compaſſed in, & beaten downe on eche ſide: Yet Wallace left nothing vndon that might pertaine to the dutie of a valiant captain. But at length all his endeuors notwithſtãding, the Scots (ouerſet with multitude of enimies) (as the Scottiſh writers affirme) were ſlayne in ſuch huge numbers, that he was conſtrayned to draw out of the field with ſuche ſmall remnant, as were left alyue.
