'wat' - Witan cannot be used absolutely, but it has no obvious object. M-R take the long sentence of 39-44 as the direct object of wat. An alternative is to begin a new sentence with ðonne sorg ond slæp somod, and take the direct object of wat as hu sliþen bið (30).
