Lines 148-156

The poem ends with a passage on the Harrowing of Hell and the triumphal return of the risen Christ to heaven with the souls brought out of hell. The syntax of the passage seems rather loose with the second "þa" clause of 155b awkwardly dependent on the prepositional construction in 153b-154a. See London, British Library, Cotton Galba A. xvii, fol. 21v which shows Christ in glory surrounded by the choirs of heaven.
