For the derived sense "shine" see Bosworth and Toller's dictionary sense XII (of direction lit. & fig.). cf. Beowulf line 726 "Him of eagum stod leoht unfæger - a horrible light stood forth (i.e. shone) from his eyes". A similar use of "stonden" with jewels is found in the Medieval poem Pearl line 113, section 5.
