Like the peculiar forms of the dative plural noted on line 4 and elsewhere, this is instance of the weakening of unstressed vowels. M&R point also to 'forgyldon' (l. 32), 'dælon' (l. 33), 'gangon' (l. 56), 'syllon' (l. 61), and 'eodon' (l. 229).
