M-R favour taking þone halgan sanct and the hwæþer-clause as parallel objects of æteowian (translate 'and commanded them to show the holy saint and to show whether he was uncorrupted'). Needham follows Klaeber and argues 'the noun subject of the dependent noun clause is anticipated and made the object of the main clause' (translate 'commanded them to show him whether the holy saint was uncorrupted').
