Lines 271-2

'þeodred bisceop þearle mid gifum on golde and on seolfre' - Abbo does not mention Theodred as a benefactor of Bury-St-Edmunds, but only as the bishop who tries the theives who attack the church. Theodred is usually identified as bishop of London (909x926 - 951x953), though there are also two later bishops of the East Anglian see with this name: Theodred I (?x974 - ?) and Theodred II (? - 995x997). Theodred, bishop of London, left lands to the church of St Edmund in his will.
There is a verb missing in this clause, hence M-R insert gegodode þæt mynster, an emendation supported by a late manuscript.
