'word oþer fand soðe gebunden' - M-R translate literally 'found other words rightly linked'. Word oþer fand appears to refer to a poem, and soðe gebunden may refer to obedience to the rules of Old English alliterative verse, hence Jack's translation '[produced] a new poem correctly linked in metre'. For further discussion, see Eliason (1952).
