Line 834a

'hildedeor' - if hildedeor refers to Beowulf, then lines 833b-836b refer to the display of Grendel's arm above the entrance to Heorot, to which the poet later alludes (926, 983, 1302-1303). On the other hand, if hildedeor refers to Grendel, then these lines record that Grendel was forced to leave his arm behind in Heorot.
