'feormie' - A notorious crux. All that the naked eye can discern from the manuscript is an f followed by several illegible letters. Feormie, from feormian, was the consensus choice until recently; M-R prefer Gerritsen's suggestion that the manuscript reading is forð bere, 'might bear forth'.
