Compare 1587 edition: 1 When it was bruted, that Skeffington, the Earle of Kildare,Edward Sta|ples Biſhop of Meeth. and Edward Staples Bi|ſhop of Meth landed neare Dublyn, the Maior and Citizens mette him with a ſolemne Proceſ|ſion,Thomas Fitz Simons. [figure appears here on page 84] on Saint Marie Abbayes greene. Where maiſter Thomas Fitz Simons recorder of Dub|lyn made a pithie Oration to congratulate the Gouernour and the Earle his proſperous arry|uall, to whom Skeffington ſhaped an anſwere in this wiſe.

Maſter Maior, and maiſter Recorder, you haue at length this noble man here preſent, for whom you ſore longed, whyleſt he was abſent. And after many ſtormes by him ſuſteyned, bee hath nowe to the comfort of his friendes, to the confuſion of his foes, ſubdued violence with pa|cience,He glaunceth at the Cardinal who was taken [...]o be a but|cher his ſonne. iniuries with ſufferance, and malice with obedience: and ſuch Butchers as of batred thyr|ſted after his bloud, are nowe taken for outcaſte Maſtiues, littred in curriſh bloud. How well my maiſter the king hath beene of his gracious incli|nation affected to the Earle of Kildare, (his backe friende being by his iuſt deſert from his Maieſtie weeded) the credit wherein this noble man at this preſent reſteth, manifeſtly declareth. Wherefore it reſteth, that you thanke God and the King for his ſafe arriuall. As for his welcome, maiſter Re|corder his courteous diſcourſe, your great aſſem|blies, your cheerfull countenaunces, your willing meetings, your ſolemne Proceſſions. doe ſo farre ſhewe it, as you miniſter mee occaſion on hys Lordſhip his behalf, rather to thanke you for your courteſie, than to exhort you to any further cere|monie.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Hauing ended his Oration, they road all in|to the Citie, where ſhortlye after the Earle of EEBO page image 85 Oſſorie, ſurrendred the ſworde to ſir William Skiffington.
