Compare 1587 edition: 1 In deede the Dowglaſſes had euer the go|uernment of al matters perteyning to the defence of the realme, ſo that the men of warre had them ſtill in all the eſtimation & honor that might be.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 But nowe to the purpoſe touching the con|ference had betwixt king Iames the ſeconde, and the Erle of Dowglas:The Earle of Dowglas an|ſwereth the king ouer|thwartly, and is ſlaine. It chaunced in the ende (vpon what occaſion I knowe not) that the Erle anſwered ye king ſomwhat ouerthwartly, wher|with the king tooke ſuche indignation, that the Erle herevpon was ſlaine by him and ſuch other as were then about him on Shroue euen.
