The Biſhop of Durham approcheth the Scottes with an armie.

The Biſhop of Durham was comming the day nexte following with a newe power to haue ayded the Percies, but hearing of the ouerthrowe, and beeing come within a little of the Scottiſhe camp, hee was enformed that the Scottes were as ready to defende, as hee was to aſſayle, and therevpon doubting the iſſue of his enterpriſe, if he ſhoulde giue battell, he turned backe to Newca|ſtell,He retireth. and ſuffered the Scottes to returne into their countrey without any further purſute.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 A Parliament at Perth.In the yeere following, a Parliamente was holden at Perth, in the whiche demonſtratiõ was made by King Roberte, that for aſmuche as hee was brokẽ by great age, and might not through feebleneſſe occaſioned thereof attende to his office in gouernemente of the Realme,Robert Earle of Fyfe is choſen gouer|noure of the Realme. it was neceſſary that ſome gouernoure ſhould be choſen, and ther|fore hee required that his ſeconded ſonne Roberte Earle of Fife might enioy that office, conſidering his eldeſt ſonne Iohn Earle of Carrike (by rea|ſon of a ſtripe which he had receyued on the legge by an horſe of Sir Iames Douglas of Dalketh) was not able to trauell, but kept his bed, & mighte ſturre no way foorth abroade.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 The Lordes conſented to the Kings requeſt, and ſo the Earle of Fife was conſtituted gouer|nour of Scotland, by common conſente of all the Lords of the Realme.
