Compare 1587 edition: 1 The Earle of Dowglas de|ceaſſeth.This Erle of Dowglas, one of the moſt valiãt perſonages in thoſe his dayes within the whole realme of Scotlande, died within his Caſtell of Dowglas, ſhortly after he had atchieued this en|terpriſe, & was buried in the Abbey of Melros.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Iames Earle of Dowglas.After his deceaſſe, his ſonne Iames ſucceeded in the Erledome of Dowglas, a right fierce and hardie knight, the which ſhortly after appoynted by the king to haue the guyding of an armie,The Scots in|uade Nor|thumberland. he paſſed with the ſame into Englande, and burnt the Countrey ſo farre as Newcaſtell. But being countermaũded home, he returned and came vn|to Perth,Iohn de Vian Admirall of France. where hee founde the Lorde Iohn de Vian, Admirall of Fraunce and Earle of Va|lentinois, who about the ſame time was arriued in Scotlande with two hundred and .xl. ſhippes well and perfitely furniſhed for the warres, and in them two thouſand and fiue hundred armed mẽ,26 Barons, 800 men of armies or knights. [...]Fo [...] I doubt whe [...] the [...]re were any Hagbuttes vſed in thoſe dayes, though gonnes were ſomewhat before that time inuẽted. diuerſe of them beeing Lordes and Barons, be|ſides Gentlemen and others. Alſo there was a|mongſt them 400. Hagbutters, (as Balentine ſayth) and two hundred with Croſbowes: the re|ſidue bare pykes, halberts, & ſuch like weapons.
