Compare 1587 edition: 1 The nobles of the contrarye faction (as Pa|trike Dunbar Erle of Marthe, Androwe Mur|ray, and William Douglas with other) tooke greate deſpite thereat, and reyſing an armye to reſtrayne his inſolente doings, came towardes him, whereof he being aduertiſed (as then lying at ſiege before the caſtell of Kyldrummy) roſe and met them in the fieldes within the forreſt of Kilblayn, where hee gaue them a ſore battayle, and hadde gone away with the victorie, had not Iohn Crag Captayne of Kildrummy ſallyed foorth of the caſtel with three hundred freſh men, and comming to the ſuccour of his frendes,The Earle of Athole is ſlain re|newed the battaile in ſuch earneſt wiſe, that the aduerſaries therby were diſcomfited, Earle Da|uid their chieftayne beeyng ſlayne in the fielde, with Walter Bryde, Robert Cumyn, and a greate number of other, bothe Gentlemen and commons.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Syr Thomas Cumyn was taken pryſoner, [figure appears here on page 342] and beheaded the next day, being Newyeres day. For the battayle before mencioned,Fourdon. was fought the laſte daye of December (as Fourdone no|teth.) Who further ſayeth, that the Earle of Athole had with hym three thouſand menne a|gaynſt his aduerſaries, whyche were not paſſe xj. hundred.

This Androw Murray in the beginnyng of his new office, layd ſiege to the caſtel of Cou|per with a myghtie power of men, but hearyng that the Cumyns made fowle work in the north partes of the realme,The Cumyns yet to flighte. againſt ſuche as fauoured not the Engliſhe parte, he left that ſiege, & went againſt them, with whom encountring in bat|tayle, he ouerthrewe their armye, and put them all to flyght.
