Compare 1587 edition: 1 This Archembald Douglas reyſing a might|tie armie of Scottiſhmen, entred with the ſame into the bordures of Englande, ſo to withdrawe king Edward from the ſiege of Barwike to de|fende hys owne landes from brennyng and ſpoiling.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 But king Edwarde aduertiſed hereof, deui|ſed an other ſhift, for immediatly ſending a meſ|ſenger vnto ſir Alexander Seiton captain of the towne, he certified him playnly, that onleſſe hee rendred the town forthwith into his hands, both his ſonnes whiche hee had with him, the one as hoſtage, and the other as pryſoner, ſhoulde bee without further delay hanged vpõ a gybet there in ſight afore his owne face.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Sir Alexander Seiton herevnto aunſwered, that as yet the terme of the truce was not expi|red, and therfore deſyred the King eyther to ob|ſerue the couenauntes, or elſe to deliuer the pled|ges, that he mighte be at his aduauntage: But King Edward (as ſaith the Scottiſh chronicle) immediately cauſed a payre of gallows to bee reyſed afore the towne, and bothe the ſonnes of the ſayde ſyr Alexander to be led thyther, to ſuf|fer on the ſame without further reſpite.
