Compare 1587 edition: 1 Abbeyes of Scotlande in Engliſhmens handes.At the ſame tyme many Abbeyes and ſpiri|tuall benefices in Scotlande were in Engliſhe mẽs hands. Neuertheleſſe this William Wal|lace by commiſſion hadde of Willyam Fraſer Biſhop of Saint Androws, auoyded and put them foorth of all partes of Scotlande, leauing neyther temporall nor ſpirituall perſon of theyr bloud within that realme.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 2 For ſhortely after, by publike authoritie, he receiued the armie that Iohn Cumyn Erle of Buchquhan had led before, & conſtrayned thoſe Scottes that fauoured kyng Edward, to obey his commaundementes, in renouncing all ſuch faith and promiſe as they had giuẽ or made vn|to him.Caſtels wonne by William Wallace. This done, he paſſed forth with greate puiſſance againſt the engliſhmen, that held ſun|dry caſtels within Scotlande, and with greate hardineſſe and manhoode he wan the caſtelles of Forfair, Dundee, Brechen, & Mountros, flea|ing all ſuch ſouldiers as he founde within them.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Wallace nowe ioyfull of this his proſperous ſucceſſe, and hearing that certaine of the chiefeſt capitaines and officers of thoſe Engliſhemen yt kepte the caſtell of Dunoter,Dunoter won by William Wallace. were gone foorth to conſulte with other Engliſhemen of the fortes nexte to them adioyning, came ſodeynly to the ſayd caſtel, and tooke it; not leauing a man aliue of all thoſe whiche he found as then within it.
