Compare 1587 edition: 1 Robert Bruce occaſion of the ouerthrowe of Scottes at Dunbar.It was reported that Robert Bruce vpon ſe|crete conference had with king Edwarde before this battaile at Dunbar, ſolicited all his frends in the Scottiſhe armie to flee vpon the firſt ioy|ning, whiche the reſidue perceyuing, were ſo diſ|comforted, that incontinently they threw away both armour and weapon, and ſo were vanqui|quiſhed without reſiſtance.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Robert Bruce ſubmitteth himſelfe to K. Edwarde.Trouth it is, that after this victorie, Robert Bruce ſubmitted himſelfe vnto king Edwarde, requiring him to performe his promiſe touching the right whiche he had to the crowne of Scot|land: howbeit he receyued no anſwere to his ly|king touching that requeſt: for king Edwarde had no leſſe deſire to enioy the kingdom of Scot|land, than Bruce (as the Scottiſhe writers af|firme.) Therfore to caſt off Robert Bruce con|cerning his demaunde, he anſwered thus (as is ſayd) Beleeueſt thou that we haue nothing elſe a doe but to conquere realmes,The anſwere of king Ed|warde to Ro|bert Bruce. and to delyuer them ouer againe vnto thee?

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Roberte Bruce hereby perceyuing the ſuttle meaning of king Edwarde, returned righte ſo|rowfull vnto his landes in Englande, hauyng great indignation in his mynde, that he had o|beyde king Edwards requeſts: but yet conſide|red with himſelf that he muſt ſuffer for the time, tyll occaſion ſerued to reuenge the iniuries recei|ued whiche he mynded to doe,The caſtels of Edenburgh & Striueling wonne. and that in moſte cruell maner, as afterwardes it will appeare.
