Compare 1587 edition: 1 Kyng Iohn hearing of this ſlaughter of his people at Barwyk, in great deſire to be auenged, gathered his power,The Scots diſ|comfited at Dunbar. and ſent the ſame foorth a|gaynſte king Edwarde, with whome they met not farre from Dunbar, and there encountring [figure appears here on page 301] with hym in battayle, the Scottiſhe hoſte was diſcomfited, the moſte part of the Scottes being eyther ſlayne or taken.

Edward. enuironning the Caſtell on eche ſide, that in the end they were conſtrayned for lack of vic|tuals to yelde themſelues to king Edwarde, on condition to haue their lyues ſaued, which coue|nant was not obſerued (as the Scottiſhe wry|ters affirme:) for king Edwarde hauing got thẽ into his handes, cauſed them foorthwyth to bee put to death.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Robert Bruce occaſion of the ouerthrowe of Scottes at Dunbar.It was reported that Robert Bruce vpon ſe|crete conference had with king Edwarde before this battaile at Dunbar, ſolicited all his frends in the Scottiſhe armie to flee vpon the firſt ioy|ning, whiche the reſidue perceyuing, were ſo diſ|comforted, that incontinently they threw away both armour and weapon, and ſo were vanqui|quiſhed without reſiſtance.
