C. Abbots.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 King Alexander after the deceaſe of king Iohn, returning homewardes with his armie, thought he might haue paſſed quietly without any annoi|ance by the way,King Alexan|der returneth into his coun|trey. through meanes whereof, hee loſt a certaine number of his men, being ſodenly inuaded by ſuch Engliſh men, as watched theyr time to take the Scottes at ſome aduauntage, in ſtraying abrode out of order: with which iniurie king Alexander was ſo moued, that hee ſpoyled and harried all the Countreyes by the which hee paſſed, till he was entred within the confines of his owne dominion.

Compare 1587 edition: 1 Shortly after Cardinall Guale came into England furniſhed with the Popes authoritie, to denounce the excõmunication aboue remembred againſt Lewes & Alexander, with all their fau|tors, wherevpon he accurſed not only the foreſaid perſons,Cardinall Gualo. but alſo interdited all the places where they came, inſomuch that in the end Lewes was conſtrayned to buy an abſolution with no ſmall ſummes of money, of that anaricious Cardinall Gualo, and after vpõ agreement alſo made with king Henrie, he returned into France.Lewes retur|neth into France.
