Compare 1587 edition: 1 Theſe were the ſonnes of Ferguſius, ſome|tyme lorde of that Prouince, after whoſe deceaſe the kyng of Scottes that is ſuperiour lord ther|of, deuided the countrey betwixt theſe two bre|thren, but Gilbert the eldeſt brother found him ſelfe muche grieued to haue any parte of thoſe landes (whiche were his fathers) gyuen from him: but yet doubting puniſhment at the kings handes, he durſte not attempt any thing againſt hys brother till it fortuned the king to be taken. And then deliuered of the feare which had ſtayed his miſcheuous purpoſe, he taketh his brother at vnwares, and cruellye murthered hym after no common manner, but rather martyred hym in beaſtly wyſe, ſo to ſatiſfie the inſtincte of his di|uelliſhe nature. And immediatlye after inua|ding the vpper countreyes, he exerciſeth greate ſlaughter of men on eche [...]ande. But his bro|ther had a ſonne called Rowlande, whiche pro|uing a valiant yong Gentleman, boldly reſiſted his vncles rage, with the aſſiſtance and ayde of his fathers friendes.
