Harrison gives no source for his statement that carp have been only recently introduced into England. He may have been influenced by The book of St Albans, first printed in 1486, which was attributed to Juliana Berners, and which referred to carp as rarely found in England. In fact the carp seems to have been introduced to England in the late fourteenth century - C.K. Currie, `The early history of the carp and its economic significance in England', Agricultural History Review 39/2 (1991), 97-107.
