Compare 1587 edition: 1 To this counſell were ſummoned to appeare all the Prouincials, Wardens, and miniſters of the begging Friers. And for ye there were ſo ma|ny ſundry orders of thẽ, ech man deuiſing of hys owne brayne ſome newe alteration, all thoſe or|ders were reduced into the foure orders which af|ter by the church of Rome were approued and a|lowed.The foure or|ders of Friers. A general cõmandement was alſo giuen,A commaun|dement giuen againſt deui|ſing new or|ders of Friers. that no man ſhould go about to begin any newe forme of ſuch vaine ſuperſtitious orders, whiche appoynt themſelues to eſchue labour, to the ende they may liue in pleaſure, luſt and ydleneſſe, vpõ the trauaile of other mens browes.

The Scots gaue the tenth priuie of all their landes, or rather (as ſome bookes haue) the tenth part of all tythes belonging to churches to the furtherance of this iourney, notwithſtan|ding through ſuch enuie and contentions as roſe amongeſt the ſayde Princes, that iourney brake to the great domage and preiudice of the Chri|ſtian fayth.
