Harrison's account of the islands round the west and north coasts of Scotland is heavily dependent on Rerum Scoticarum Historia auctore Georgio Buchanano Scoto (Edinburgh, 1582), fols. 9r-13v, while Buchanan relied no less heavily on Donald Monro's Description of the Western Isles, apparently the result of a journey made through the isles in 1549. The identifications of islands in the notes which follow are those made in Monro's West Isles of Scotland and Genealogies of the Clans, 1549, ed. R.W. Monro (London and Edinburgh, 1961).
