Julius Caesar, De bello Gallico, Book II, refers to Divitiacus as having ruled the Suessiones, a powerful tribe in northern Gaul, `within living memory', and as having extended his authority over south-east Britain. Galba, who ruled the Suessiones at the time of Caesar's campaigns of conquest, is not described as the son of Divitiacus.
