Historia Ecclesiastica Book II, cc.5, 9 records Eadwine (d. 633) as subduing both Anglesey and Man, but describes them as having been hitherto under British, not Scottish, rule. Bede is the source for the number of households (i.e. hides) cited at the beginning of this paragraph, but Harrison has misunderstood his source; Bede says that Anglesey contained 960 hides, Man over 300.
