A translated version of the supposed letter of Pope Eleutherius to King Lucius was printed by John Foxe in the 1570, 1576 and 1583 editions of his Acts and monuments, in each case giving his authority as `Ex vetusto codice regum antiquorum'. His text differs in detail from Harrison's, and contains no suggestion that the manuscript was defective, which would seem to confirm Harrison's statement that he had made his own transcript and translation from the original, whatever this was.
