Harrison almost certainly took this information from The Decades of the neue worlde or West India ... by Peter Martyr of Angleria, translated by Richard Eden (1555), which refers (fol. 45v) to `Their preestes and divines (whom they call Boitios) ...', and how (fol. 125v) their `rhymes or ballettes, they caule Areitos. And as oure mynstrelles are accustomed too synge to the harpe or lute, so doo they in lyke maner synge these songes and daunce to the same, playinge on tymbrelles made of shels of certen fysshes ...'. Although Martyr referred to the island as Hispaniola, he also provided the alternative name for it of `Quizqueia'.
